Operation Nyamba III: Returning to Protect Mayotte’s Turtles
Sea Shepherd has returned to Mayotte (Indian Ocean) for a third campaign to protect sea turtles — who come to the French island each year to lay their eggs — from poachers.
Hundreds of turtles have violently killed each year on the beaches of the French island to fuel a lucrative black market. Despite its status as a protected species, poaching is now the leading cause of turtle mortality and may well lead to extinction.
Our teams are preparing to conduct hundreds of night patrols in the coming months, covering the beaches in 12-hour shifts until the turtles have successfully laid their eggs and returned to the sea unharmed. Your support helps keep our volunteers on patrol! Support this operation at: https://www.seashepherdglobal.org/our-campaigns/operation-nyamba/
